"Journey Towards Peace"
Deborah Stockdale - 2010/2011, Donegal, Ireland
This quilt was commissioned especially for the exhibition to reflect the themes of overcoming violence and movement towards a peaceful society. It was inspired by the stained glass window at the WCC Geneva headquarters. Central to the work is the WCC logo for ecumenism and the IEPC logo, a heart formed from two hands. The voyage towards peace is depicted by figures moving towards the sun, which represents unity andcompletion. Reflecting on the piece, Deborah has said, “A journey starts with one step. A journey towards peace starts with each of us making one step towards peace in our time on earth. Whether it’s a small step or a giant stride, we all have the capacity to move towards a peaceful future.’’
